ecop CTO Bernhard Adler at the Clean Transition Dialogue on Clean Tech in Brussels

ecop CTO Bernhard Adler was one of around 20 participants invited by President of the EC Ursula von der Leyen and Maroš Šefčovič, EU Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, to the “Clean Transition Dialogue on Clean Tech” in Brussels. The aim was to strengthen the industrial dimension of the EU Green Deal.

Securing Europe’s industrial competitiveness is an important overarching priority. President Ursula von der Leyen and Maroš Šefčovič, EU Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, sat down with more than 20 representatives of key clean tech sectors. Goal of this “Clean Transition Dialogue on Clean Tech” is to boost the industrial dimension of the EUGreenDeal. Bernhard Adler was one of the invited and took part in the discussion.

It was made clear that innovative clean technologies are the backbone of the green transition to reach climate neutrality by 2050 and to make sure that the future of clean tech industry will be made in Europe.

The following points were emphasized, among others:

  • ecop recalled the Net Zero Industrial Act (NZIA), according to which the EU must build heat pump factories for industry with a capacity of 31 GW by 2030 in order to achieve the decarbonization targets. It will need specific programs.
  • There are plans for offtake guarantees to provide security for investments.
  • The financing of factories for renewables is to be simplified.
  • We need an accelerated expansion of the electrical grids as well as energy storage and flexibility in consumption.
  • A dedicated NZIA platform is to be created to support companies.

Ann Mettler (Breakthrough Energy), pointed out in her speech that the EU has invested 400 billion euros in fossil fuels since the Ukraine crisis and that LNG terminals have been built very quickly. This speed and corresponding budgets are now also needed for renewable energies.

Shortly before, ecop was part of of a High Level Fireside Chat on the premises of the Austrian Parliament, hosted by Climate Protection Minister LeonoreGewessler. She discussed ideas and proposals for a strong energy and environmental technology sector in Austria with industry executives.

The topics are similar and it is about the framework conditions that are needed from the political side. On a general level, these are stability and predictability in the framework conditions. The tenor was that there is an urgent need for incentives and stable funding for the heating transition, but that the environment for innovation should also be strengthened. More specific, an accelerated expansion of the electrical grids as well as energy storage are needed as well as specific measures to implement the “Net Zero Industrial Act”.
